Isaiah chapter 17 speaks of the destruction of the literal city of Damascus.  There are wide ranging theories about when the fulfillment of this prophecy will be, ranging from it being destroyed as a result of the war in Syria, or perhaps even afterwards as a consequence of a terrorist attack, perhaps a spilling over of the Syrian civil war, etc.  Regardless of how it unfolds, the fact remains that at some point it will be destroyed utterly and completely and never be inhabited or inhabitable again.
